Hurricane Dorrian
Hurricane Dorrian struck the Bahamas on September first, and nearly all of the residents of Grand Bahama and Abaco are displaced and in need of shelter. The storm devastated everything, and the death count is still rising. Dorrian is one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, and when it hit the Abaco Islands, it was a Category 5 storm with 185 mph winds, tied for the strongest hurricane landfall on record.
Like our island of Jamaica, the tourist industry thrives in the Bahamas. That industry, including car rental and airport pickup businesses like our own, has also taken a hit. It will take years for the island to rebuild.
Jamaican Hurricane Season
Like every island in the Carribean, Jamaica and Montego Bay are affected by hurricanes. Visitors to our island, and those looking to book with our car rental company, should note that the Atlantic hurricane season runs from the beginning of June through the end of November, with the peak period being early August through October.
Know, too, that hurricanes pass near Jamaica and Montego Bay around every four years and statistically, the chances of storm hitting Jamaica during your visit are very slim. For residents, of course, the risk is much higher.
How To Plan and Prepare
