Drive to These Best Jamaican Beaches

Let’s be honest, one of the major reasons you’re visiting Jamaica is the beaches. The more beaches you visit on your exploration of the island, the better. From Negril on the west end of the island, all the way to Boston Bay Beach on the east end, you will have a hard time finding a beach to visit when you don’t ask yourself if you’re dreaming. You can explore and discover how many different shades of blue/green waters there are. And of course, there will be white sand, sun, and adventure.

car rental companiesSeven Mile Beach, Negril

You read that right, seven miles of uninterrupted beach. Along the way, visit Kool Runnings Water Park, several restaurants with live Reggae, snack vendors, or try out scuba diving! Start at the north end and take your time walking along the beach, find a shady spot with no one around and relax, or jump in the water to cool off. Walking the seven miles will take around an hour and a half, so bring plenty of sunscreen and make some stops to stay hydrated.

  • From Timeless Mobay Car Rental, hop on highway A1 and drive south along the coast for about an hour and a half to the south end of the stretch of beach to Coral Beach.

If you want to feel the sand between your toes a little sooner, check out the beach in Montego Bay, Cornwall Beach. The beach offers clear waters and white sand, but still has plenty of space and chairs. If scuba diving isn’t your cup of rum, maybe give snorkeling a shot.

  • The best part about this beach might be the four-minute drive from our car rental company to the water. Head toward the beach on Sunset Blvd. and take a left on Kent Ave.

A little further away from Montego Bay, but still a beautiful drive is Mammee May Beach. The town of Ocho Rios was formerly a fishing village, but now is a port town for cruise ships and has many hotels and of course, beautiful beaches. The nearby town of Saint Ann’s Bay is also a destination worth checking out for a respite from the hot sands.

  • Rent a car and drive east along the north coast of Jamaica. The two-hour drive will give you a fantastic view of both the island and many more beaches.

This area was visited by Queen Elizabeth in the 1960s and by Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. The beach is located in a small inlet where a river flows directly into the ocean. Set up a chair where the thin green water gently laps against the sand and read a book or simply close your eyes and take a nap!

  • Take your time on this nearly four-hour drive to stop and eat lunch in Saint Ann’s Bay and maybe get out to stretch when you visit Blue Mountains National Park. Take highway A1, which turns into A3 shortly after Saint Ann’s bay, and then it’s just one more hour on highway A4.

Bost Bay is known for the beginning of the jerk flavor and the beach has few tourists or vendors and is close to affordable hotels. Try your hand at surfing here; rent a board at a local surf shack that has rentals and lessons.

  • Just 10 minutes past Frenchman’s Cove, you can experience both beaches.
